Help & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about commercial, industrial and agricultural solar in Zambia — financing, load-shedding backup, system types, coverage and maintenance.

What does Solar Saver Zambia do?

Solar Saver Zambia designs, finances, installs, operates and maintains solar photovoltaic and battery systems for commercial, industrial and agricultural clients in Zambia. We deliver complete turnkey EPCM projects — from feasibility and engineering through procurement, construction, commissioning and long-term operations and maintenance. Solar Saver Zambia is the customer-facing brand operated by Elite Technologies Limited, part of the Solar Saver Group.

Do I have to pay for the solar system upfront?

Not necessarily. Alongside outright purchase, we offer capex-free options — including rent-to-own and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) structures — where we cover the cost of the system and you pay only for the energy it produces. This lets a business go solar without a large upfront capital outlay. We will recommend the structure that best suits your balance sheet and operational needs.

Will solar keep my business running during load shedding and grid outages?

Yes — with a hybrid solar-and-battery system. When the grid goes down, a battery energy storage system (BESS) provides backup power to keep critical operations running, and the solar array continues to charge the batteries during the day. We size the backup around the loads you most need to protect, so essential equipment stays powered through outages.

What is the difference between grid-tied, hybrid and off-grid solar?

Grid-tied systems work alongside the utility supply and reduce your daytime grid consumption, but do not provide backup during an outage. Hybrid systems add batteries, so they cut your bills and keep you running when the grid fails. Off-grid systems operate independently of the utility altogether, which suits remote sites with poor or no grid access. We recommend the right type after assessing your site, loads and reliability needs.

What size of solar system does my business need?

It depends on your electricity consumption, available roof or ground space, and how much backup you want during outages. We carry out a free site assessment and energy review, then design a system tailored to your operation rather than a one-size-fits-all package.

Which industries do you work with?

We work across commercial, industrial and agricultural sectors — including farms and irrigation, cold storage, food processing, manufacturing and retail. Our project portfolio includes solar and battery systems for farming estates, a cold-storage facility and Copperbelt agricultural operations.

Do you install solar outside Lusaka?

Yes. We are based in Lusaka and deliver commercial, industrial and agricultural solar projects for clients in Zambia, including on the Copperbelt.

Do you maintain the system after installation?

Yes. We provide ongoing operations and maintenance, including system monitoring and preventative maintenance, to keep your installation performing reliably. Because our rent-to-own and PPA models tie our revenue to system performance, our incentives stay aligned with yours for the life of the contract.

How does solar save my business money?

Solar reduces the amount of expensive grid electricity your business buys, and a well-designed hybrid system also reduces reliance on diesel generators during outages. With our capex-free options you avoid upfront investment and pay for cleaner power from day one. We provide a site-specific assessment so any savings estimate is based on your actual consumption rather than generic claims.

What equipment do you use?

We use tier-one solar modules, inverters and battery systems from established original-equipment manufacturers, selected for reliability and bankability. System components are matched to each project's technical and financial requirements.
